ACTION-PACKED WEEK OF DIGICEL DELIGHT IN DOMINICA IN THE RUN UP TO 13th WORLD CREOLE MUSIC FESTIVAL
Kicking off the week long run up to the big event itself, last Saturday saw the first staging of Digicel’s Red River Jamboree which took place from 12pm to 10pm at Layou Park Playing Field and saw thousands of people turning up to enjoy performances from the likes of Phaze 5, Pointe Michel Cultural Group, Natral Vybez, Xcess Groove, Fanatik Band, Jeff Joseph and MKG from Martinique. In addition, there were a wide range of activities from river sports like kayaking, tubing organized by Wacky Rollers to dominoes competitions, a bouncy castle and Digicel Rock Band on the Nintendo WII to keep the masses happy and entertained.
As the main sponsor of the event, Digicel kept the crowd excited with a treasure hunt for two World Creole Music Festival tickets which were found and won by Nadia Joseph of Layou – and a spin the wheel competition where customers who topped up with EC$20 or more were in with the chance of winning a brand new top-of-the-range handset. Two lucky customers, Julius Anthony and Roger Francis – both from Mahaut – went home the proud new owners of a fantastic Samsung E1075 courtesy of Digicel. The kids were also kept busy and excited with an area exclusively for them and a fun draw to win Digicel goodies.
And as anticipation builds towards the start of the Digicel-sponsored World Creole Music extravaganza, Digicel has been keeping the island hyped with a text- in competition for ten lucky customers to have the chance not only to meet reggae superstars, Morgan Heritage – but also to get complimentary passes to the Festival and a case of Kubuli. All customers had to do to do was text “WCMF” to 7171 to be in with a chance of meeting their reggae idols. Each text message cost just EC$1 and the draw for the lucky winners took place on Thursday.
In terms of the World Creole Music Festival itself, as the main sponsor for the 5th year running, Digicel is encouraging everyone island-wide to get ready for an even Bigger and Better three days of music and fun than ever before.
This year’s event boasts a sizzling line-up of some of the region’s biggest acts from Kassav and Machine a Swinger on the first night, Morgan Heritage and Triple Kay Band on the second night and Maxi Priest and Nature Boys on the final night – plus loads of fun, entertainment and giveaways from Digicel throughout.
Richard Stanton, country manager for Digicel Dominica, comments; “We are always looking for ways to give value back to our customers and to Dominica as a whole. This is always an exciting week on the island and, as Dominica’s Bigger, Better Network, we’re delighted to be helping to put on some great entertainment for our valued customers. From the Digicel Red River Jamboree last Saturday right through to the end of the weekend, we will be ensuring that the vibes are good, there are plenty of fun giveaways of Digicel handsets, credit and other goodies and that everyone is having a fantastic time.”
